Adam and eve
The first biblical pivotal point for humanity happened when Adam
& Eve fell at the Garden of Eden. That
fall brought sin into the world and death for all humanity from that point
until now.
On the sixth day of creation (Genesis 1:26) ‘And God said; Let us make man in our image,
after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fowl of the air, and
over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that
creepeth upon the earth.” This verse not only tells us of God’s
original intention for man, but also of the plurality of God. The word God
used here is from the Hebrew word “Elohim” .
Elohim is a plural word and it means the entire Godhead consisting of
the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Is Jesus Christ God
In the gospel of St. John 1:1 says “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and
the Word was God.” Also, St John 1:14 goes on to say “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we
beheld his glory. The glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of
grace and truth. In the epistle of Paul to the Colossians in Colossians 1:16
we read, For by him were all things created, that are
in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be
thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him and for
him:
The apostle Paul is talking about Jesus Christ being the creator
of Genesis 1:1. He makes his
point clearer in Colossians 1:15 where he states, Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every
creature: Christ himself makes this
point even clearer in St. John 14: 8 – 9, 8)Philip saith unto him, Lord shew us the Father, and it sufficeth
us. 9)Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you and yet hast thou
not known me, Philip? He that hath seen me hath seen the father; and how sayeth
thou then, Show us the Father? Jesus Christ was the physical image of the
invisible God. They are the
same, yet separate. Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the
glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Jesus
Christ is the visible image of God the Father.
He is one with God the Father and the Holy Spirit. When he came to earth and was born of Mary,
he was God on earth in a fleshly form.
This is what separates Christ from all others. He was not a prophet, or a great one sent
from God, he was God.
Marriage between a Man and a Woman
Now that the scriptures have shed a little more light on who our Creator
actually was, let’s go back to Genesis for insight on the creation of
man. God gives us a little
more detail in Genesis Chapter 2. When
God initially created man, he was created both male and female in one
body. Unlike all the other
animals where God had created the male and female separately. God decided later
it was not good for Adam to be all alone, so that brings us to Genesis 2:21 –
24, 21) And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to
fall on Adam, and he slept: and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the
flesh in its place. 22)Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He
made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. 23)And Adam said: “This is now bone of
my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was
taken out of Man.” 24) Therefore a man shall leave his
father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. What
this scripture tells us, is that in Adams creation,
Eve was part of Adam. God
then removed Eve from Adam and made her a separate person. Man is only ½ of
Gods creation of man, and Woman is the other ½, and for humans to complete the
creation of being one again the two halves have to union again in marriage and
they together become a complete being. This
can only transpire between a male and a female. When the two come
together, they complement each other. The
concept of marriage is to rejoin the male and female together so they can
become “one” again before God. That is
why two males cannot be joined together any more that two females can be joined
together. You end up with two rights or
two lefts, but not one right and one left working together as one.
The fall of Man
In Genesis 1:31 Then God saw everything that He had made,
and indeed it was very good. So God closed
out the sixth day of creation and rested. Man and woman, animals, birds, fish
creepy things were all to reproduce and fill the earth. A perfect set up for all
humanity. In Genesis
chapter two the scripture describes the Garden of Eden where God put man and
the only rule man had to follow. Genesis
2:16 – 17, 16)And the Lord God commanded the man
saying, “of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17) but of the tree of
the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat
of it you shall surely die.” This was a time when there was no rain;
the vegetation was watered by mist coming up from the ground. There were no carnivorous animals
during this time. Everything
would eat of the growing vegetation.
This next part has been called by some the ‘Greatest love story
ever told.” It’s the fall
of Adam. Genesis 3: 1 – 6, 1) “Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the
field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed
said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” 2) And the woman said
to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3)but of the
fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall
not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4) And the serpent said to
the woman, “You will not surely die. 5) For God knows that in the day you eat
of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and
evil.” 6) so when the woman
saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a
tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her,
and he ate. In these verses we see that Adam was
with Eve when the serpent lied to her and deceived her. 1 Timothy 2:14, And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell
into transgression. Eve had taken the forbidden fruit and
fell before God. Adam
wasn’t deceived by the serpent’s lies, so why did Adam take of the forbidden
fruit as well? Some
theorize it was because of the love he had for his wife Eve. He wasn’t able to bear loosing her.
Satan the Father of all lies
Yes indeed the serpent lied and both Adam and Eve died that
day. You must keep in mind,
that at the time of the fall, Adam and Eve were on God’s eternal time
plan. 2 Peter 3:8, But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the
Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. Both
Adam and Eve died in that day on God’s time. Their bodies fell out of Gods eternal
time clock and started slowly dying, but the soul of both Adam and Eve are
still eternal and live on to this very day.
When man was created they were created in Gods image with a body,
soul and spirit. When Adam
fell from the eternal, his body began to die, but his soul still lived, and his
spirit or connection with God was broken. From that point on, every human born,
was born into a world where they now had to choose between good and evil
constantly. As time went by
in this new world, men chose to do evil over good, so God decided to shorten
the life span of mankind. Genesis
6:3 And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not
strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one
hundred and twenty years.” Now mankind
was no longer under God’s timetable, but under mans timetable. But even that
didn’t change the heart of mankind from choosing evil over good. Genesis 6:5 – 6, 5)Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in
the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil
continually. 6)And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth and He
was grieved in His heart.
From the time of Adam being thrown out of the Garden
of Eden to the time of the flood, was around 1600 years. When God brought the flood there were
only eight people God found worthy to live and be saved from the flood waters
out of probably several million upon the earth at that time. After the floodb Noah and his sons
began to rebuild the earth again, they had the same issues to face as
Adam. They had lost the
Spirit part of them that was one with God, they still had their souls that
would live on through eternity, and they were still in bodies that were going
to die. Mankind still was
going to have to choose between good and evil, only now their soul was at
stake. If they choose good,
their souls went to a place called paradise when the body died, if they choose
evil their soul when to a place called Hades. They were still living under
the curse and man had to work hard for his survival. Before the flood, all creatures were feed off
of the plants, grass, vegetables and fruit of the earth. After the flood, all that changed and now
some animals were carnivorous.
This was now the state of mankind, trying to figure out how to
stay reconciled to God. About
400 years after the flood, God came up with a new program for mankind. He called out a man named Abram. Abram was a man that loved God, and because
of his faith in God, God accounted that faith as righteousness. Abram faith consisted of the truth that Abram
believed everything God told him. And
that belief in God doing what he said he’ll do was sufficient to God, for God
to account that to Abram for righteousness.
That story will take us to my next biblical pivot point. The creation of a nation of priest for
man.
